MS on Symbian Foundation!

Story

For the most part, analysts have given their thumbs up on the news of the creation of the Symbian Foundation, seeing it as a positive for both Nokia and the industry, and a competitive threat to Android, LiMo and Microsoft

The analysts at Strategy Analytics, for example, expected this development to lead to less platform fragmentation across the industry, with Symbian becoming a global standardized operating system with a unified user-interface. This will lead to reduced development times for vendors, lower handset prices, more and speedier innovation, and an expanded global smartphone market.

Funny to hear that Microsoft is warning the public that an open-source model will lead to fragmentation for Symbian. "They're opening themselves up to some of the same challenges of all open source projects," said Scott Rockfeld, group product manager for Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business. The Microsoft executive points to the various splintered Linux versions and groups that exist.

But hey, could this just be taken as good free advice from Microsoft? The Linux Foundation can help prevent this from happening from the get go.

Symbian licenses Scalado software to deliver picture perfect mobile imaging

Symbian Limited, the market leader in open operating systems for mobile phones, has signed a licensing agreement with Scalado for its mobile imaging software affording Symbian OS™ state of the art image handling capabilities, making Symbian an even more attractive mobile OS choice for mid-range devices.

Scalado’s solution for Symbian OS will significantly improve Symbian’s imaging performance for higher megapixel images. It will deliver faster rendering, scaling and rotation and superior image editing features - with the added benefit of reduced memory consumption. Importantly, Scalado’s patented Random Access JPEG technology allows imaging operations to occur while the image is in compressed form, greatly reducing RAM consumption.

Retroactive to Symbian OS v9.3 and v9.4, the three year licence ensures benefits for end-users and handset manufacturers alike and is free of any additional royalties. End users will enjoy higher usability while handset manufacturers will see a cut in hardware costs. Under the terms of the deal, Symbian and Scalado will create a joint team of highly skilled imaging and camera engineers to enhance and extend Symbian's camera and imaging offering.

Nokia:Most Trusted Brand in India

Today Ecomonic Times announced that Nokia is the most trusted brand in India, replacing Colgate.

“Becoming the No 1 trusted brand in India is a very prestigious achievement for us,” Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, president & CEO, Nokia Corp, confessed while speaking to Brand Equity, the joy and sense of achievement palpable over the heavy static in the phone connection between Mumbai and New York. The high command has every right to feel pleased. In four short years, Nokia has leapfrogged from a distant No 71 (in 2005) to No 44 (2006) to No 4 (last year) to finally replacing the deeply-entrenched Colgate as the No 1 this year.

Now I am Nokia employee :P

I will like to announce to whole world that I am Nokia employee now. I was trying toget job in Nokia for last 2 years and finally the dream comes true for me. True to its slogan "connecting people', Nokia gives 1 N-series device (Currently either N95 or E90) to each employee and it also pays entire mobile bill. The work culture so far seems to be good and there is hardly any work pressure.
I am currently part of LBS team here. And I am sure that I will learn lots of lots of jargons in LBS world.
